Parents Perspective

In selecting a school for our children we sought wise council, took a giant leap of faith and enrolled our first child in St Joseph's School. We believe that St Joseph's had the potential to offer a sound education and spiritual learning environment. We have not been disappointed and have seen the school go from strength to strength. Our family's faith has matured considerably in the last few years. There have been a number of influences on the growth, but one of the most significant has been our day to day contact with the school. In work and play, our children learn to respect each other's diversity and to live with dignity. Our children feel safe here. We believe that the school is like a 'base camp' within the Catholic community; a place of nourishment and preparation, a place for gathering the strength and courage necessary for other faith goals".
We see the physical setting of St Joseph's as a metaphor for the spirit of the school. Behind is the mountain, an icon of strength and commitment. Beside us are the pohutukawa, symbols of growth and vitality. On the horizon is the sea from which our children learn to look beyond themselves and take their place in the world. Here at St Joseph's our children are learning to believe in themselves and to believe in Christ whose values are made real in the people around them. When we looked for the ordinary, we found the extraordinary.
