Greetings to everybody. Welcome to the St Joseph’s School, New Plymouth Website.

St Joseph’s is a Contributing State Integrated (Catholic) Primary School catering for children from new entrants to year six. We are a very well resourced school that provides a broad and rich curriculum built around Christian living, creativity and knowledge and skills essential for the future. These skills are embedded in the school’s Eight Competencies (8 C’s) and through our Gospel Values of Tika, Pono & Aroha. An emphasis is given to achievement in the core learning areas of literacy and numeracy as well as developing and fostering an appreciation of the arts, digital and scientific skills, and social, outdoor and leisure skills.

St Joseph’s School continues to benefit from strong community support. Children and staff feel a strong sense of belonging and we enjoy an ongoing association with past and present students and families.

We encourage you to explore our website and we look forward to hearing from you and meeting you in the future.

Fiona Hopkirk: Acting Principal

We are delighted to advise that we have appointed Mrs Mary Kleinsman-Powell as our new Principal/Tumuaki.  We will welcome Mrs Kleinsman-Powell to St Joseph’s School at the start of Term 1, 2023.

FIRST COMMUNION HELPERS NEEDED PLEASE!!

Tue Aug 23 10:14am

Coming up in September we will be celebrating the Sacrament of First Communion with our Parish community.  We have over 90 children preparing for this Sacrament.  As has been a tradition here in our parish, we ask parents of children who celebrated this Sacrament the previous year to help with the hospitality side of the celebration in St Joseph’s Church Hall on the day of the Mass.  This involves:

+ Being in the kitchen before Mass as families bring their food in.
+ Warming up food as required during Mass.
+ Setting up the First Communicants table with some of the ‘party food’ families will be bringing.
+ Setting up food on tables in the supper room.
+ Serving tea and coffee as people arrive.
+ Clearing off empty plates.
+ Dishes and tidy up of kitchen/hall area after the celebration.

This is a lovely way of helping make the celebration such a special day for the children and families involved. Please consider helping out!!  It would be great if we have representatives from all three of our Catholic primary schools.

We require helpers for two Masses:

+ Sunday 11th September at 11am.  Approximate time of help needed 10am – 2.30pm (about 8 helpers needed)
+ Sunday 18th September at 10.30am (Mass is at OLHC and celebration at St Joseph’s Church Hall afterwards)  Approximate time of help needed 11am – 2.30pm (about 5 helpers needed)

Please email me with your offers of help!  Karen Maclean youngfamilyminister@catholicparishnp.nz

MASKING UP FOR TERM 3

Fri Jul 22 01:37pm

The Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health have strongly recommended that schools implement mask wearing indoors for all students Year 4 and above.  This is to help minimise the spread of winter illnesses and Covid-19.

When students return to school on Monday 25th July, we ask that all students Year 4 and above wear masks indoors.  Masks will be provided for students.
